The role of the Community Engagement Coordinator is vital to the efficient functioning and support of the Rincon Youth Coalition and Rincon Tribal Tobacco Awareness Project. Under the lead direction of the Project Director, the incumbent is responsible for a wide range of complex administrative and coordination tasks associated with outreach, research, evaluation activities. Current projects for which responsibility may be assigned include: recruitment and organization of the Rincon Youth Coalition and other activities related to the Rincon Tribal Tobacco Awareness Project.


The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  1. Serves as the Community Engagement Coordinator and assumes primary responsibility for Youth Coalition activities required to meet goals and objectives of the Rincon Tobacco Awareness Program.
  2. Oversees: Educational materials development, community outreach, youth recruitment and training, coalition activities.
  3. Tracks and adheres to all deadlines and requirement of Project Grant.
  4. Interacts with Tribal Council, Tribal Members, Youth Coalition Members, the Rincon Recreation and Education Dept., and other tribal entities.
  5. Assists with review and submission of project budget; accountable for incentive materials.
  6. Assists with project reports (e.g. progress, annual, and final reports).
  7. Participates in professional activities, attends meetings and webinars, attends conferences. (Travel is required)
  8. Serves as the liaison to community – and school-based partners to facilitate research activities, including participant recruitment, data collection, and dissemination of findings.
  9. Coordinates and participates in Youth Coalition events including, but not limited to: recruitment events, training sessions, planning meetings, Youth Film Camp, outreaches, clean-up events and community forums.
  10. Attends trainings and conferences as required by the CTCP.
  11. Completes activities, research/evaluation tasks successfully and within specified deadlines.
  12. Maintains complete and accurate documentation of project tasks.
  13. Adheres to project budget and accounting procedures.
  14. Maintains effective communication and positive relationships with Project Director, Youth Coalition Members, Contractors, Tribal Members, Funders, and Government Staff.
  15. Keeps supervisor well informed.
  16. Contributes to improving office and/or project procedures with creative and practical ideas.
  17. Maintains confidentiality and discreetness of sensitive information.



  • Graduation from a U.S. high school, G.E.D. or equivalent from a U.S. institution, or a California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) certificate is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in related field.


The following license and certification are required to be maintained throughout employment and are not subject to waiver:

  • Valid California Driver’s License. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record with the DMV.


  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills and the flexibility and ability to manage time and multiple tasks with little supervision.
  • Proficiency with all current Microsoft Office programs as well as any other software programs, online communication platforms and other technology necessary to perform the job.
  • Experience developing communication materials, including flyers, brochures, booklets, etc.
