Mission Statement
It is the duty of the Attorney General to serve the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians and work honorably every day to fulfill the Rincon Band’s promise. The Attorney General provides leadership, advice and information in partnership with federal, state and local governments and the People of the Rincon Band to:
• Enforce and apply the Tribe’s laws fairly and impartially.
• Ensure justice, safety, and liberty for everyone.
• Encourage economic prosperity, equal opportunity and tolerance.
• Safeguard the Rincon Band’s human, natural, and financial resources for this and future generations.
Department Overview
The Office of the Attorney General represents the People of the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians in civil matters in tribal, state and federal administrative proceedings and before tribal, state and federal courts to support, defend and advance the rights and interests of the Tribe, its agencies, arms and enterprises. In this capacity, the Attorney General serves as legal counsel to Tribal Council officers, Tribal Government staff and committees, the Rincon Economic Development Corporation and First Nations Economic Development Corporation.
The Attorney General also coordinates with Tribal Law Enforcement, the San Diego County Sheriff and District Attorney in the administration of justice in criminal and civil matters to support the law enforcement efforts within the Rincon Reservation. In addition, the Attorney General manages tribal ordinance projects and programs to protect the Reservation land base and the Rincon Band from illegal activities that threaten public safety. The Attorney General also enforces laws that safeguard the environment and natural resources of the Rincon Reservation.
